🤯 China Replicates ASML EUV Chip Technology
China has built and is testing a prototype EUV lithography machine for advanced chipmaking, Reuters reports. The system, reverse-engineered from older ASML tools by former engineers, can generate EUV light but not yet usable chips. The secret project supports China’s push for semiconductor self-sufficiency amid export controls.
📲 OpenAI Opens ChatGPT App Directory
OpenAI is now accepting third-party app submissions for direct use inside ChatGPT. Approved apps appear in a new App Directory and can be triggered within conversations. OpenAI will review all apps before listing, with user rollout starting in early 2026. The move turns ChatGPT into an app platform, not just a chatbot.

Universal Basic Income Focuses on Stability Not Replacing Work

Universal basic income is routinely misrepresented as a plan to replace work entirely—an imagined future where government checks supplant paychecks and social decay follows. That caricature makes it easy to declare UBI unrealistic or dangerous, then redirect attention to wage subsidies framed as the responsible solution. It’s a familiar move. It’s also wrong.
Universal basic income is not a plan to end work. It is a plan to ensure that work is no longer the sole gatekeeper of survival in an economy that increasingly rewards ownership over labor—and now, with AI, accelerates that imbalance. → Read the full article here.

China Secretly Builds EUV Lithography Prototype To Close AI Chip Gap

China has built and begun testing a prototype extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography machine—the core technology needed to make the world’s most advanced AI chips—according to a Reuters investigation. Developed in a high-security Shenzhen lab by a state-backed team that includes former ASML engineers, the machine can generate EUV light but has not yet produced working chips.
The effort, launched around 2019 and likened by insiders to a “Manhattan Project,” aims to reduce China’s reliance on Western semiconductor technology amid U.S.-led export controls. While significant technical hurdles remain, the prototype suggests China could reach limited EUV capability years earlier than analysts previously expected. → Read the full article here.

🤔 FRIDAY FACTS
The Webcam
To save themselves the walk, the scientists rigged a camera to the coffee machine and wrote a program to display the live feed on their desktops. It wasn't for security or video calls—it was purely so they could check the coffee levels without standing up.
When they later connected it to the internet, the "Trojan Room Coffee Pot" became the world's first webcam celebrity. Millions of people logged on just to watch a grainy pot boil in England.
That’s a Wrap!
