š§āš» Microsoft Upgrades GitHub Copilot
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella unveiled a major leap for GitHub Copilot, shifting its role from a helpful pair programmer to a more autonomous peer programmer. The upgraded AI is now equipped to take on complex coding tasks independently, deepening its integration into software workflows. Itās a bold move toward delegation, not just assistanceāCopilot, but with a lot more flight training.
š¢ Microsoft Adds Fine-Tuning to GitHub Copilot
To match that newfound autonomy, Microsoft also added fine-tuningāletting developers train Copilot on their own codebases. The result? An AI teammate that doesnāt just codeāit codes like you. Running securely in the cloud, the feature adapts to each teamās patterns, libraries, and style. Think of it as Copilot with a memory, a voice, and your repoās intuition.
šļø Microsoftās Foundry Platform Expands to Power Next-Gen AI Agents
Microsoft also unveiled major upgrades to Foundryāits comprehensive platform for building AI apps and agents. Foundry now supports a broader range of models from Grok, Hugging Face, Meta, and Mistral, with new tools like agentic retrieval in Azure AI Search, a Foundry Agent Service, and tighter integration with Copilot Studio. Foundry now extends Microsoftās enterprise-grade security and identity tools to AI agentsāensuring they slot into workflows without sacrificing oversight.
š Microsoft Debuts NLWeb: A New Open Standard for NL Interfaces
And if that wasnāt enough, Microsoft also introduced NLWeb, a new open project designed to let AI agents interact with any website using natural languageāessentially HTML for the agentic web. The aim is to standardize how agents navigate and act on websites, enabling them to browse, click, and fetch information just as a human would, but using plain language commands. NLWeb lays foundational infrastructure for a web where agents are first-class users, not just observers.
š¬ An AI-Powered Platform to Accelerate Scientific Breakthroughs
Last but not least, Microsoft introduced Discovery, a new initiative aimed at using AI agents to supercharge the pace of scientific research. Discovery unites the full Microsoft tech stackāAzure, Copilot, and moreāto help researchers generate hypotheses, run simulations, and interpret results autonomously. One highlight: the system recently identified a potential coolant compound that avoids using harmful āforever chemicals.ā
