šŸ§‘ā€šŸš€ Microsoft Build 2025, AI's Biggest Hurdles, & AI Kills Entry Jobs

Discovery boosts AI in science, Copilot adds agentic DevOps, NLWeb brings AI to sites, Foundry powers local AI, 365 gets agent tools.

Good morning, it’s Tuesday. You might as well call this the Microsoft edition—because we’ve got more Build updates than your inbox has unread AI newsletters.

Plus, a sobering look at how AI is reshaping entry-level work, and in our latest Forward Future Original, we tackle the three core limitations still holding AI back—and why solving them might be harder than it seems.

Top Stories of the Day

šŸ§‘ā€šŸ’» Microsoft Upgrades GitHub Copilot
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella unveiled a major leap for GitHub Copilot, shifting its role from a helpful pair programmer to a more autonomous peer programmer. The upgraded AI is now equipped to take on complex coding tasks independently, deepening its integration into software workflows. It’s a bold move toward delegation, not just assistance—Copilot, but with a lot more flight training.

šŸ”¢ Microsoft Adds Fine-Tuning to GitHub Copilot
To match that newfound autonomy, Microsoft also added fine-tuning—letting developers train Copilot on their own codebases. The result? An AI teammate that doesn’t just code—it codes like you. Running securely in the cloud, the feature adapts to each team’s patterns, libraries, and style. Think of it as Copilot with a memory, a voice, and your repo’s intuition.

šŸ—ļø Microsoft’s Foundry Platform Expands to Power Next-Gen AI Agents
Microsoft also unveiled major upgrades to Foundry—its comprehensive platform for building AI apps and agents. Foundry now supports a broader range of models from Grok, Hugging Face, Meta, and Mistral, with new tools like agentic retrieval in Azure AI Search, a Foundry Agent Service, and tighter integration with Copilot Studio. Foundry now extends Microsoft’s enterprise-grade security and identity tools to AI agents—ensuring they slot into workflows without sacrificing oversight.

šŸš€ Microsoft Debuts NLWeb: A New Open Standard for NL Interfaces
And if that wasn’t enough, Microsoft also introduced NLWeb, a new open project designed to let AI agents interact with any website using natural language—essentially HTML for the agentic web. The aim is to standardize how agents navigate and act on websites, enabling them to browse, click, and fetch information just as a human would, but using plain language commands. NLWeb lays foundational infrastructure for a web where agents are first-class users, not just observers.

šŸ”¬ An AI-Powered Platform to Accelerate Scientific Breakthroughs
Last but not least, Microsoft introduced Discovery, a new initiative aimed at using AI agents to supercharge the pace of scientific research. Discovery unites the full Microsoft tech stack—Azure, Copilot, and more—to help researchers generate hypotheses, run simulations, and interpret results autonomously. One highlight: the system recently identified a potential coolant compound that avoids using harmful ā€œforever chemicals.ā€

šŸ“Ÿ PROMPT OF THE WEEK

Your fridge + AI = instant dinner ideas.

You are a smart recipe assistant. Based on the ingredients and dietary preferences I give you, suggest 2–3 creative, gluten-free recipes I can make. For each recipe, include a short description, ingredients list, and simple step-by-step instructions. Use what I already have, and don’t suggest anything too complicated or equipment-heavy.

Example Ingredients: ground turkey, sweet potatoes, bell peppers, spinach, canned tomatoes, quinoa, cumin, olive oil

Paste this into ChatGPT and watch dinner solve itself.
