At a Beijing security conference in late October 2025, Chinese tech firms showcased artificial intelligence systems designed to enhance police surveillance, ranging from robot patrols to software that analyzes citizens’ speech, behavior, and data trails. The event, attended by officials from across China, reflected Beijing’s new “A.I.+ Action Plan,” a national initiative embedding A.I. in every sector, including public security. While the systems’ effectiveness is unclear, experts warn that the technology’s psychological reach, making people feel constantly monitored, may be its most powerful effect.

SAP Unveils RPT-1, a Business-ready AI Model Trained on Tabular Data
SAP introduced RPT-1, a foundational AI model designed to handle enterprise and financial tasks without fine-tuning. Unlike large language models trained on text, RPT-1 is built on relational data—spreadsheets and transactional records—letting it perform predictive analytics and structured reasoning “out of the box.”
The model, part of SAP’s new AI Foundation suite, will be generally available in Q4 2025, with an open-source variant and a no-code playground to follow.
